“I’m bringing food for the masses” – Spearhead
This is post #10 in my quest for 30 in 30.
In setting my personal standards one of the areas that I deconstructed and rebuilt was my physical health. I had a history of being slightly over weight and while it wasn’t really at life threatening levels, it was really really annoying. 7 years ago I became Vegan and ate a diet consisting of absolutely no animal products in any form. This had a predictably positive effect on my health. Still, I wasn’t able to kick all of the the extra weight I was carrying. So, in light of my new demand for a better life I decided to go one step further and become a raw foodist.
Eating raw foods has a really simple concept. Eat nothing that has been cooked, processed, pasteurized or otherwise tampered with. All of these processes kill the essential enzymes that all raw vegetables contain which helps in the digestion process. These enzymes allow your body to better absorb the nutrients available in fruits and veggies so that you are getting optimal nutrition from every bite. Kill these of through cooking and you get a significantly lesser value from your food.
So I made the switch to nothing but raw natural organic foods. Within 2 months I had lost 34 lbs, had enormous amounts of energy and was starting to see muscles on my body that probably hadn’t been this close to the surface since age 4. Needless to say I have become quite a fan of the raw food lifestyle. I recommend it to everyone even if for a short period just to have the experience of eating what and how we were intended to and the positive effects if can have.
Below is a short list of all of the positive effects that I’ve experienced:
- Higher Metabolism.
It’s like putting premium fuel in a luxury sports car. It helps your body to run as the highly efficient machine it was meant to be. - Faster Healing Powers.
I started working out pretty hard after a while and I was almost always ready to go for more the next day. Suddenly I was knocking push-ups out in the hundreds where I used to struggle to do 10. I also noticed that bruises would heal in days if I got banged up. It used to take weeks. - Looking Younger
I’m 37. I’ve always looked a little younger than I am, but people started pegging me for 24. This was a combination of improved fitness and better skin. - Increased Energy.
This probably has a lot to do with the boosted metabolism but I used to get lethargic after a meal. Forget about when I was eating meat. I literally wouldn’t be able to walk around the block after dinner. Whith raw foods I became much more active, started playing sports again and never ran out of gas. - Less Sleep.
The average adult needs 8 solid hours of sleep to be fully rested. That used to be a big struggle for me. I would wake up in the middle of the night if I were even able to fall asleep in the first place. I was always a bit groggy, developed the standard american addiction to caffeine and I felt like I was missing out on a lot of my life because of it. Enter the raw food diet and I sleep straight through and feel more rested than ever. Oh, and by straight through I mean my full 6 hours on the average.
These are just a few of the physical effects that I have experienced. Please remember that these were my experiences and are not guaranteed to be yours but from everything I’ve read, these results are typical.
