“Build up your confidence so you can be on top for once” – Mr. Big
This is post #9 in my quest for 30 in 30.
Establishing your Standards of Living can be as easy or as hard as you decide to make it. I personally feel that it’s a natural process of self examination leading to a greater knowledge of what matters most to you. Once you know what’s important in your life it becomes easier to get it. Here are five tips that I found to be useful while developing my own Standards of Living.
- It’s All About Making Life Easier.
With a clear set of standards you have a better understanding of what is important to you and why. Knowing this makes all of life’s decisions easier not only because you can recognize when something is right for you, but also when it’s not. - Standards Are Streamlined.
Bing firm in what matters most to you means you’re able to eliminate everything else. The last thing that any of us needs is more baggage be it physical, mental or emotional. Know what fits and get rid of the rest. - Find What Works.
When figuring out just who you are it helps to take a look at your past successes. Think of some of the best moments of your life. What was happening? What did you do to make it happen? One important thing to remember about success is that it can be repeated. Break down some of your successes, take a look at what you were doing and then compare notes. You’ll start to see a pattern emerge. This pattern is your personal formula for success. Once you have that you’ll be able to replicate it and apply it to your life going forward. Make the elements of your personal success formula an absolute standard in your life and accept nothing less. You will see that success again. - Know Where You Want to Go.
One of the great things about this world is that anything is possible. Any one of us is capable of anything we can imagine. All that we need is a healthy dose of determination and effort. When you’re establishing your standards, try to consider where you want to go in life. You don’t have to think of every possible scenario, but have an idea of where you’re headed. Give yourself a clear vision of what you want your life to be and then thrust yourself onto that path. Through your will and determination and by accepting nothing less that the best for yourself you will see your goals and dreams realized. - Make Sure Your Standards Are Your Own.
With all of the information constantly streaming in to our brains its easy to take on others wants and desires as our own. This occurs naturally by way of our desire for acceptance. When we strip our lives down to the essentials however we see that the only constant thing in our lives is us. When all is said and done the only people that we will have to answer to is ourselves. By making sure that all we do is what is right in our own minds and not just someone else’s we will never have a need to lower our standards. Live by your own standards and no one else’s
These are just a few of the things you can do to start establishing your standards. Just keep in mind that it is all a very personal process and that you need to do what is best for you. Once you get yourself set though, there’s not going to be any stopping you.
Thanks for being here. Talk to you tomorrow.
